Taize Retreat Reflection

By Andrew Heller, junior, Community Garden Leader

taizeLast weekend, April 4th and 5th, marked a moment of meditation for members of the TCU Wesley foundation. We sent a group of about ten students, myself included, to White’s Chapel UMC to experience the Taizé Pilgrimage of Trust. The Taizé Community is an ecumenical monastic community in France that welcomes tens of thousands of young adults each year for worship.
Taizé aims to be a place of reconciliation between Christian denominations and allows believers to worship despite any divisions that may have previously separated them. The weekend was an ecumenical experience filled with prayer, song, and community! Taizé uses a unique type of contemplative prayer that uses meditative songs and silence. The songs are short and repeat again and again and allow the singers mind to process the words at a deeper level.

It was a wonderfully restoring weekend that was filled with people from so many different places in life. The uniqueness of the group made an ideal learning and worshiping environment that was awesome to participate in.
