Advent Devotional 12/9/16

December 9, 2016, Mason Wagner
Scripture: 1 Kings 19: 12-13
Listening for silence in the busy season.
Advent is the anticipation of the arrival of the Christ child; it should be the most reverent and joyous time of year. However, the dizzying school schedule, the overdone decorations, and the loud music blasting out of every nearby speaker make Advent, dichotomously, the most hectic time of year. Whether you live for Christmas carols or not, once the season is over we feel like we need to take a deep breath and relax. But I urge you to find your breath in the chaos of the season. Listen for the silence in between carols, or right before you turn your car on, or put your headphones in. Listen for the silence that God has created and give thanks for a moment to take a breath and be still.
Loving God, we give thanks for the gift of the quiet moment in our busy lives. Help us find these moments, and listen for you within them. We know that your voice is all around us, so help us hear what it is that you’re trying to tell us.  Amen.
